Contemporary urban living with great views of the Alps
This house is a reincarnation of a house plan designed for the same client on a different hill site that suffered badly in the Christchurch earthquakes.
The opportunity presented for an updated exterior treatment with the well qualified client very able to develop the interior and landscape treatments.
Designed for the spectacular views
While the floor plan includes a basement garage and workshop, the house is essentially single storey sitting on a shelf formed in the hill side.
All key living space and bedrooms take in the spectacular westerly views.
The large covered outdoor area to the north west sits comfortably under the roof line and provides shelter from frequent easterly winds.
It was a thrill to visit the completed house and see the thought and attention to detail achieved with the interior and landscape treatments.
The landscape construction was undertaken during a particularly hot Canterbury summer and it is a marvel that they have achieved so much with the garden well established and healthy.
The exterior cladding treatment includes James Hardie Linea board as the principal cladding in conjunction with timber detailing, blockwork and louvre panels.
- The exterior treatment includes concrete block, James Hardie Linea weatherboards as well as timber and powder coated alumium louvre panels.
- The louvre panels provide infill detailing and hide support structures.
